It is to be noted that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has increased the electricity prices by one rupee 6 paise per unit.
According to the notification, the price of electricity has been increased in terms of fuel price adjustment for October and November, which will be applicable only to the bills for the month of January. According to the IPA News Agency, the high cost of electricity will apply to all discus customers except lifeline customers.
The fuel price adjustment will not apply to electric consumers either. Earlier in December 2020, electricity was also priced at Rs 1.11 per unit. It may be recalled that in the past, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had disclosed the high cost of electricity generation and had recommended that the old power plants be shut down. Running at full capacity produces expensive electricity. The NEPRA report said that load shedding was eroding the confidence of consumers in power companies. The report suggested that priority should be given to high efficiency power plants and old power plants should be shut down.
On social media, people are expressing strong anger over the increase in electricity prices. Some consumers have even written that the government is charging for the electricity that the people did not use for two days due to power outage, while some consumers He said that the government and the ministry were collecting "fines" from the public for the damage caused to transmission lines and power houses due to inefficiency of water and electricity.
